What A Difference A Month Makes

Posted on Jul 22, 2018

Summer has finally shown up around here – late as usual. It’s not been the heatwave material other parts of the planet have seen this year but we’ve had a few respectfully hot days above 30C here and there (usually with a week of refreshingly cool, rainy grey days in between) so the tomatoes are finally ready to make something edible. The peas too have been practically leaping from the pots since they appreciate the on-again, off-again heat. The fact that it gets back down to 18C at night really keeps them happy as long as I can flood the pots every morning before I head out for the day.

I’ve been away quite a bit of late but found myself at home on a sunny Sunday afternoon with time to take a few photos of the patio garden to show what my started-from-seed tomatoes have turned into after a month and give the peas a chance at a bit of internet glory as well. If nothing more it proves you don’t need acres of space to become a gardener although the plots at the farm are progressing similarly with what looks to be a bumper crop of garlic this time around.

I’ll be home from my travels more often in the coming month so perhaps I’ll get a bit more keyboard time in between to prove I’m still out here on the other end of the internet and update you lot on my usual madness. Until then, it’s not too late to start some fall crops. Go get your hands dirty.
