Old Field Entrance in Autumn The old field entrance of the farm in Autumn

A New Kind of Journal

Testing, testing… Is this thing on? (tap tap tap)

Ok, so back to basics here on the farm. I’ve not had the drive to update you kind people of the interwebs for quite some time and I think that needs to change.

You see, I need resources to build the empire. Commerce. A modest flow of cash to keep me in tea and toast and building supplies. To that end, I’m jump starting and resurrecting a few things up here in Canada. The first of which is my propensity to write on all things food, gardening, and the simpler life. How you may ask does this make me income? One word, YouTube. Or is that two words? In any event, I’ve caved and started making videos to share which by simple virtue of your watching the advertising attached makes me a few pennies with each view. You get info, I get revenue. Everyone wins. This journal drives people to the videos, the videos drive people to the farm, and (sigh) I have to crack open the social media egg to drive everything everywhere. Small steps towards building the media juggernaut that is Mr. Spork.

Part deux of this evil master plan is to sell a few bits and bobs that relate to my ramblings via the web. To choose what to sell I’m going to be listening to demand with a careful ear. You’ll soon learn of my new obsession with bees and beehives and so on the side, I’ll offer you the gear you need to explore honey production yourself. Get the idea?

Remember my old life as a spice merchant? Well that’s back too. Select items that I know you need like top quality peppercorns from my old friends in India or my modestly-famous TexMex spice blend that people seem want by the kilo. I’m getting my spice mojo back and you fellow cooks are the beneficiaries.

And then of course there are the books. Not only my old books on food but some new adventures in fiction that I’m staring at in the background as I type this. That edit is going well and I hope to have it out in a few months time for you to read, laugh, and of course buy here on the site as well as the usual eBook outlets. I’ll rant about Amazon attempting to take an 80% cut of the action later. Not bloody likely in my world I say.

Speaking of Amazon, I’m going to toss in a few links from time to time for products that I use in my kitchen and garden experiments. They’ll always be in context of what I’m doing, stuff I really use and hand pick, and I promise to keep them to a minimum but if you shop ‘through’ my site, that also chucks a few coins in my coffers so I can keep doing this for you folks.

It’s early days in this reboot of the site so stay tuned and all commerce aside, enjoy the reading. Just to get you started, here’s a video I did on caramel popcorn a short while ago for the YouTube channel.
