Happy Canada Day my fellow Canadians as well as to all you foreign interlopers. Not much to report on this year but I managed to make a day of it. With charcoal and tongs in tow, it was out to the farm to fire up the grill for a nice piece of halibut fresh from the docks. Even managed to roast some summer squash and make some hush puppies on the side. If you don’t know what they are let me know and I’ll explain further but basically think fried balls of cornbread with extra goodness packed inside.
It was bright and sunny ticking over at 28C (82F) out there at high noon but a cooler full of orange & vanilla smoothies kept me digging to get a few more hedge plants in the ground between flipping the fish. The meadow wildflowers seem to multiply in both quantity and species every time I turn around. Pictured above is one that I hadn’t seen before so I suspect it has a very short flowering season. Either that or the birds have been working overtime to import some new finds.
It’s off for the local village fireworks show for me now. Plenty of fairground foods at the annual carnival, most likely deep-fried and ‘on-a-stick’ but that’s why national holidays were invented. Enjoy and be careful out there.
